Quick Facts About the Biochemistry, Molecular and Cell Biology Cluster

  • More than 50 faculty members with varied research interests contribute to the activities of the cluster.

  • The Cluster is “home” to first year students; at the end of the first year students choose a Ph.D. Program (usually Biochemistry) and permanent advisor.

Admissions Procedures

  • Admission to the program is on a competitive basis with 10-15 new students matriculating each year.

  • The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a mandatory requirement.

  • The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a mandatory requirement of applicants whose primary language is not English, the Test of Spoken English (TSE) is highly recommended.

  • Decisions are made by an Admissions Committee after review of applications and personal or phone interview.

Advisors and Ph.D. Programs

  • In the first year of study, students complete 3 or 4 research rotations before choosing a permanent advisor.

  • Students matriculate into the Ph.D. Program in Biochemistry or may choose another program at the end of the first year of study.

Financial Support

All students admitted receive

  • Full tuition Scholarship

  • Paid Health Insurance

  • Annual Stipend ($24,00 in academic year 2007-08)

Important Dates

  • Completed applications must be received by January 1 for consideration for Fall semester admission (new students are only admitted for Fall semester).
